Privacy policy

This policy explains how the Jersey Christian Portal (“we”, “the Portal”) handles personal data under the Data Protection (Jersey) Law 2018.

What we collect

• Account data: your name, email address and the church you tell us you belong to.
• Listing and notice content: whatever you choose to publish, including any contact details you enter. These are public.
• Reports:if you report something, the reason you give, (optionally) your email, and — if you’re signed in — which account sent it, so each member’s report counts once.
• In the app:if you allow notifications, a notification token for your phone, used only to send the alerts you choose in the app’s settings. Nothing is tracked and there is no advertising.

Religious affiliation

Your church membership indicates your religious beliefs, which is special category data. We process it only with your explicit consent, given at registration, and only to show which church community your posts belong to and to send you news from your church if you ask for it. You can withdraw consent at any time by deleting your account, which removes everything you’ve posted.

Who sees what

• The public sees your listings, notices, name and church name.
• Your email address is only shown to a signed-in member who replies to one of your requests or events, never publicly.
• Site administrators see account data and reports.
• We never sell data or use it for advertising.

Where it’s stored

Data is stored with Google Firebase and our hosting provider Vercel, whose servers may be outside Jersey. Emails are sent via SendGrid, and app notifications via Expo, Apple and Google. Each provider processes data under its own safeguards and our instructions.

Retention & your rights

We keep your data while your account is active. “Looking for” notices expire after 30 days. You can delete your account and everything you’ve posted yourself, at any time, from your account page or the app. On request we will also provide a copy of your data or correct it. You also have the right to complain to the Jersey Office of the Information Commissioner (jerseyoic.org).
